Covasna Community Foundation

Be active for Covasna! This is the call that the 11 founders of the Covasna Community Foundation launched in 2010, a call which also named the first project funded by the Foundation. From the very beginning, the Foundation has been pursuing the effective development of the Covasna community by gathering and directing resources to the main areas in the community which require attention.
Following the good practice of other community foundations, Covasna also implemented the “Community Card” program, whereby cardholders benefit from discounts in partner stores, and stores offer contributions to the foundation. This created a circle which is a win-win for the entire community.
In all its years of existence, the Foundation has funded projects whose purpose was to promote a healthy lifestyle, starting at the individual level and up to the community level. The foundation has managed to raise funds each year through sport, funds that have been geared towards supporting young people. Such an event is “Pedaling for a good cause”, organized for the first time in 2012, but also in the following years, with the help of which funds were mobilized to support local initiatives.
The YouthBank Fund was launched in Covasna as a continuation of older projects and through which, in 2014, several projects submitted by high school students in the county were financed.
Local support for the Foundation strengthened in 2017, which resulted in 17 programs, 4 more than the initial planning. More and more people took part in community programs, the number of individual donors increased, nearly thirty companies contributed through donations to the achievement of community goals, and the community card reached 22,000 users.
In its sixth year of activity, the Foundation collected funds at local level amounting to 265,511 lei. “In 2016 we opened a plant nursery in Valea Crișului, we offered scholarships to 42 talented children and teenagers, worth 1,000 lei each, we inaugurated the Puskás Tivadar Technical Museum in Sfântu Gheorghe and awarded the Grand Community Award to the Háromszék Folk Dance Company, all of which paint a picture of a multitude of expressions of care and love for the community. We ended the year with great satisfaction, knowing that we brought joy and smiles to so many families. This is worth living for”, says Bereczki Kinga, executive director of the Foundation.
