Prahova Community Foundation
Prahova Community Foundation has been doing good since 2012, when an initiative group organized several fundraising events to support the various projects they wanted to carry out, but also to mobilize the funds needed to set up a community foundation in Prahova.
The first fund was the “Adopt a Value” Scholarship Fund, which awarded scholarships to young talented students in Prahova. The second, “The CJE DREAM Fund” was established by organizing a philanthropic event with the main purpose to support the projects carried out by the county educational units.
In the first year since the legal set up, the Prahova Community Foundation established YouthBank, the youth responsibility program for the support of high school students’ initiatives. At the first edition, following the events organized by the team members, but also with the financial help received from the private companies that wanted to help, the YouthBank fund reached 13,000 lei.
In 2014, Prahova Community Foundation organized the first two editions of the Donor Circle, a project with a simple format, where donations are made to improve the quality of life in local communities. The two editions raised over 9,000 lei, redirected by the Foundation to the community.
Also in 2014, being already familiar with the work done for the establishment of a community foundation, but also with the desire to share their knowledge, the members of the Prahova Community Foundation supported through various events the initiative group for the establishment of the Dâmbovița Community Foundation.
2015 was a year of strategic development for Prahova Community Foundation. The Foundation continued the projects that united the community, “in which we saw how we can do good and how our involvement brings a change that actually matters”, says Isabela Alexe, executive director. Two Donor Circles were organized in which six local projects received the support and trust of 93 donors.
Implemented for the first time in Ploiești in October 2013, YouthBank has supported 8 youth projects in 2015 with a total of 12,281 lei. Since YouthBank is a program where inclusion is essential, five of the eight funded projects had beneficiaries from vulnerable environments.
Prahova CF aims to support the community spirit in the countryside, and in 2015 it developed the program “Good deeds that last”, initiated by OMV PETROM. In the first edition, the Telega and Gornet communes received support, through the creation of two Community Resource Centers (CERC). In the following two editions of the program, Prahova CF will play the role of support organization for the centers.
n 2017, the organization brought the first edition of the Științescu Fund, and over 500 children discovered a different side of science. "The first edition gave us the chance to have projects from Ploieşti, Urlaţi, Câmpina, Lapoş and Slănic. At the same time, the projects funded included domains such as robotics, chemistry, physics, electronics, 3D printing, astrophysics and astronomy", said the foundation's team.
In 2017, the foundation demonstrated its ability to mobilize the community through events such as the Creative Involvement Marathon, the Marathon of Cleanliness, or 8Hours Overtime for a Good Cause, events that brought together locals and professionals who donated their time and expertise to the well being of Prahova.
"We are a group of locals convinced that we can change the community. We care about what's happening around us, we want to see the people happy and we want the heart of Prahova to stay alive. We do this through our projects, which can inspire those around us to work together for the change we want to see. We all have something to offer, and our example makes the difference", says Isabela Alexe, executive director of the Prahova Community Foundation.
